Scorpius could swim. He could play quidditch. He could play muggle sports as well as wizarding ones. Surprising, wasn’t it? That a Malfoy could swim? Yeah, a lot of people found it that way. He felt like laughing at them all. Sure, things had become a little more unbearable this year, but he just swallowed it and didn’t whine. He wasn’t one to complain about things, but he knew he was the type to give up quickly. He wasn’t determined towards most things that weren’t too important. It was a bad outlook on things, but, then again, who cared about the youngest Malfoy? He was, sort-of, the forgotten one. And, truthfully, he liked things that way. His mother got publicity because she was Ministress of Magic. His father got publicity because he was the Head Unspeakable, and Lucius Malfoy’s son. Isabella, his twin sister, got noticed because of her personality.
So where did Scorpius come in? That was the thing; he didn’t. Only the people in his house really noticed that he existed, oh, and his teachers, but that was about it. Plus the Weasleys and the Potters, but he tried not to think about them. He really didn’t like thinking about Lily, Rose, and Dominique. He liked all three of them, and they were all Gryffindors, and part of the Weasley/Potter clan. What was he thinking? He had no idea. He didn’t think he really was thinking, for once. Who knew that the one second that he had stopped thinking and just went with instinct that it would cause problems? His sister had always said that his brain was what would cause him all of his problems. Oh, how wrong she was. That was so off, he just felt like giggling insanely.
Scorp decided to forego dinner, not feeling at all hungry. He had just come from his last class of the day, to his dismay, and wanted to go for a swim in the lake. He had no idea where the random desire had come from, but he just shrugged it off. He pulled on a pair of trunks and then a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, pulling on a pair of sneakers, and headed out of his dorm. He had deposited his bag and his uniform on his bed, knowing that no one would touch his stuff. After all, Scorpius Malfoy was one that was all about privacy, and if anyone tampered with his stuff, they could surely expect to be hanging upside down in the air from their ankles, being kept their for a while by a pissed off blonde sixth year who was a lot smarter than most people thought.
Heading out to the lake, Scorp passed by the Great Hall, and the smell of food just made his stomach turn. He really wasn’t in the mood to smell all of it at once. His pace was a regular, confident stroll, one that was noticeable, but that everyone forgot about. Even though his stride or his appearance weren’t forgettable, people managed. All it did was make him laugh. His sister could steal all the spotlight; he didn’t want it. He would’ve never wanted to be in her spot, which was something oh-so rare for a person. Everyone wanted to be Isabella Malfoy, not for her blood status, but because of how “cool” she was. All he did was roll his eyes. He got to the lake minutes later, and pulled of his jeans and t-shirt. It wasn’t windy, a pretty good day for autumn weather, and he was pretty happy with it. The water, though, he knew would be cold.
He saw someone’s discarded clothes by the lakeshore and frowned. Seemed like his swim wouldn’t be as peaceful as he had thought. Though, the outfit seemed eerily familiar. Who did it belong to? He shook his head. He saw a girl’s head bob up in the water, and heard her breathing. Was that who he thought it was. He padded through the grass and saw that yes, it was indeed Melenia, one of his friends since first year. He should’ve known that that obnoxiously loud outfit was hers’. “Who do you think? Me, of course.” He said, knowing that she’d recognize his voice. He took a dive into the water headfirst, and came up, swimming over to her. “We’re the only two that’d be crazy enough to swim in the lake so close to winter. Well, and Bella, but she doesn’t count.” Scorp said with a light laugh.
